The Crypto Craze
Cryptocurrency has been around for a decade. However, it is still forging ahead in mostly uncharted territory, much like the wild west. Many people still have no idea what crypto currency is or how it works. Could it be the future of worldwide money exchanges? Opinions will differ on that point. What we do know, is that crypto seems to be here to stay. And we're still in what seems to be the beginning stages of the crypto phenomenon.
What Is Cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is basically just another form of payment which can be exchanged online for goods and services. It works on blockchain technology which is a decentralized technology used to record transactions and spread out across may computers. Security of transactions is what makes this technology attractive.
There are over 10,000 cryptocurrencies traded to date. More and more continue to appear as popularity rises and new companies jump on board. The real question is, how many will last the test of time, and how many will disappear in the coming years? We think that will be determined by the inevitable coming of regulations, as well as which assets have real utility value.
Trading Crypto
Trading crypto is not the easiest task when starting out on your own. It's certainly not hard, but you must know what you're doing. You have to set up an account with one (or multiple) of the many exchanges on the market in order to buy, sell, or trade cryptocurrencies.
Once your account is set up and funded, you can begin to trade much like trading in the stock market. Not all coins are on all exchanges, so you may have to swap coins between exchanges and trade for what you want. It may be slightly intimidating to the newcomer, but the folks in our community are held by the hand and walked through the process step by step.
What Is The Risk?
There is always risk associated with any investment opportunity. Generally, the higher the potential reward, the higher the risk will be.
It is not unheard of for a crypto to go up 1000% in a year. It's also not uncommon for a crypto to lose half or more of it's value in a few weeks or even days. The market can be very volatile and you must know when to get in and get out unless you plan on holding assets for the long term.
The biggest issue today is that the average person has never heard of a specific crypto until it soars to new heights and gains a lot of buzz and chatter on social media and maybe even the news. This is when people jump on the bandwagon and buy in, only to catch the next retraction in price and lose money.
People in the know, such as the people in our community, have already bought and sold and made a profit on the coin before the average person hears about it. This is where the money is made.
The lesson here is, if you want to trade crypto, it is best to follow people who really know the space. Unless, of course, you want to dedicate several hours per week learning the ins and outs and trends of the crypto market. Crypto can bring you massive gains if you know when to buy and sell. It can also drain your account if you don't know when to buy and sell.
